Adult and children’s auditions for The Sound of Music

A slight change to the previous post. The auditions will be held in Markinch Town Hall on Sunday 22nd January 2012. Adult auditions will be at 2pm and children’s auditions at 4pm.

Note that the part of Maria is already cast.

Children’s auditions for The Sound Of Music. 19th -24th March 2012.
The auditions for the children’s parts will be held in Markinch Town Hall from 7-9pm on Thursday 19th January 2012. Anyone who is interested in playing the parts of either Liesl (age 16) or Rolf Gruber (age 17) should register their interest with our secretary Valerie Thomson as soon as possible on 01592 754537 or email secretary@maos.org.uk

The playing ages for the von Trapp family auditionees are:- Gretl, the youngest; Marta, 7; Brigitta, 9; Kurt, 10; Louisa, 13; Friedrich, 14; Liesl, 16. Also to be cast, Rolf Gruber, 17.

2012 Production - The Sound Of Music

Rehearsals resume in Markinch Town Hall on Sunday 8th January 2012 at 2pm for ….. THE SOUND OF MUSIC . Due to circumstances beyond our control we are unable to put on the show we had originally planned to do but we have now obtained a licence to perform The Sound of Music. The rehearsal schedule will be demanding as we will be putting the show on in March 2012. Further announcements will be posted here soon. We are extremely grateful to our friends at Limelight Productions for assisting us in obtaining the licence to perform the show this year. Review of ‘Mack and Mabel’ by John Urquhart, NODA Area 7 representative

Although previously, I have not rated Mack and Mabel as one of my favourite shows, this production challenged this and I found it thoroughly enjoyable. This owed much to the convincing performances from all the principals. Jonathan Cammidge worked hard at creating the character of Mack Sennett and succeeded in gaining our sympathy when it really isn’t justified. Similarly, we were drawn to Jackie Beatson’s Mabel and we did have lots of sympathy for her. In addition to these outstanding performances, Julie Stirling was most convincing as Lottie and Scott Smeaton created a highly believable Frank. John Marshall and Jan Tadrowski as the backers Kessel and Bauman were a strong pairing, giving some light hearted relief. Stephen Burdis was imposing as William Desmond Taylor. Staging was extremely effective and great credit should go to the design team. The small orchestra gave all the backing that was needed and did not disappoint during the well-known overture. This was choreographer Valda Wicks’ swansong with the company. Over the years she has worked marvels in producing so much creative movement in such a small space. Her talent will be missed.

The musical story of the tumultuous romantic relationship between the famous Hollywood director Mack Sennett and one of his biggest stars, Mabel Normand told through a series of flashbacks.

Here is the review of our 2010 show Oklahoma! taken from the NODA Scotland magazine.

What a great show this was! How did Markinch manage to get so many people on stage without it looking crowded? Certainly the lower height rostra at the front was used to good effect and the wonderful back cloth had such an illusion of depth. Congratulations to the scenic artists! The principal work was all of an exceptionally high standard. Jason Roseweir sang and acted Curly beautifully. He was ably partnered by Kirsty Anderson who made a fine Laurey. Derek Walker brought great comedy and timing to the part of Will Parker and Laura Paterson was a memorable Ado Annie. Scott Smeaton was a definitive Jud and Craig Spence hit all the right spots with his portrayal of Ali Hakim. The chorus attacked all their numbers with great gusto, particularly during ‘The Farmer and the Cowman’, which was certainly a high point. I also really enjoyed the staging of the ballet. A really enjoyable show. It was good to see so many men on stage.

The AGM was held on Tuesday 29th September 2009
in Markinch Town Hall at 8.00pm

Rehearsals started on Tuesday 6th October in the town hall. The first night included a bit of singing and an Oklahoma hoedown - jeans, boots and a checked shirt were optional and everyone seemed to have a ball !
